Companies are looking for good UX and great UX talent cannot find jobs. Why?
Companies who are not Agile are asking for Agile talent thinking that will help them "transition to Agile from the bottom up." As a UI/UX developer I took it upon myself to connect with others around town and speak with with a number of companies in Austin looking for "UX designers / developers" who were familiar with Agile Methodology.
The skills being requested by companies for a User Experience designer bare no resemblance to the reality of what good UX practitioners should know, and those who really should be great UX practitioners cannot get through to the interview process. Come with me on a journey through Austin of who is out there, who is looking to work in UX, who is looking for UX talent, and how none of them are speaking them the same language.
